Richard Schaefer - Firefighter - New Hampshire

Fire Chief Richard Schaefer, age 52, died in the line of duty on September 2, 2012, in Hopkinton, New Hampshire.

He was a member of the Hopkinton Fire Department. He had 33 years of service. 

Richard was working a busy shift during the Hopkinton State Fair, when he suffered a heart attack. He was transported to a local hospital where he passed away.

Richard Schaefer joined the Hopkinton Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter in 1979. He became deputy chief in 1991 and was promoted to fire chief in 1999. The fire chief position became full-time in 2009. 

Friends stated that Richard loved doing what he was doing. He is described as genuine, humble, hardworking, concerned about his family and others, and dedicated to his job. 

Rick is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife Kathy and two sons, a daughter and a granddaughter. 

Pray for all who die in the line of duty. 

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and gone the next. They never got a chance to say good-bye. 

Let us pray that Richard Schaefer is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
