Mervyn McDonald

Australian Soldier Lance Corporal Mervyn McDonald, age 30, from Western Australia, died on August 30, 2012, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

He was killed when his helicopter crashed while attempting to land during a mission. 

He was a member of the 2nd Commando Regiment.

He had enlisted in 1999, served for 5 years and left in 2004 and then re-enlisted in 2005. He had served in East Timor and was on his sixth deployment to Afghanistan.

Military officials describe Mervyn as a positive influence on all around him and a dedicated and professional soldier.  

Family members describe Mervyn as a top guy with a heart of gold. They are proud of him and of his service to his country. He loved the Army and made his career there. 

Mervyn is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother and step-father; his 3 brothers; and his fiancee.

Let us pray that Mervyn McDonald is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

i knew young Mervyn when he first came to the Derby Pre-primary through to primary as his teacher he was such a quite and adorable child- he became good friends with my son and nephews He will certainly be missed and he has done Australia proud - May the angels watch over you Mervyn and my condelences to the family
