Joshua Nelson

Spc. Joshua N. Nelson, age 22, Greenville, North Carolina, died on September 16, 2012, in Zabul Province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when his position was attacked with small arms fire.

He was assigned to 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 513th Military Intelligence Brigade, Fort Gordon, Georgia.

Joshua attended North Pitt High School where he played drums in the school band. He attended church and sang in the gospel choir. 

He enlisted in the Army in 2011 and received his advanced individual training in signals intelligence analysis at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas.

He arrived at Fort Gordon in December and was assigned to D Company, 202nd Military Intelligence Battalion, then later the 297th Military Intelligence Battalion. He deployed to Afghanistan in May of 2012. This was his first overseas deployment. 

Family members describe Josh as a really good guy, who was loved by all who knew him. 

Family members are proud of his service to his country. 

His awards and decorations include the National Defense Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

Joshua is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his father, Brian Nelson; and his wife, Quamisha Nelson. 

Let us pray that Joshua Nelson is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
