Jose Montenegro Jr.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Jose L. Montenegro Jr., age 31, of Houston, Texas, died on September 5, 2012, in Logar Province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered when his helicopter crashed.

As of this posting it has not been determined if the aircraft was shot down or malfunctioned. 

He was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. 

Jose was born in Brownsville and grew up in the Clear Lake neighborhood of Houston, near Galveston Bay. He enlisted after he graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1999.

He was serving his third tour of duty overseas. He was only a week away from coming home for good. He had previously been shot in the arm during a tour in Iraq in 2005.

Family members describe Jose as generous, warm and humble about his accomplishments. He loved to ride motorcycles and was protective of his mother and sister.

Jose is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his mother, Reyna Torres; and his sister Liliana Montenegro. 

Thank you for serving, Jose. 

Pray that Jose Montenegro is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
