Jonathan Schmidt

Staff Sgt. Jonathan P. Schmidt, age 28, of Petersburg, Virginia, died on September 1, 2012, in Batur Village, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire. 

He was assigned to 192nd Ordnance Battalion, 52nd Ordnance Group, 20th Support Command (CBRNE), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Jonathan was a graduate of Thomas Dale High School.  He joined the Army in 2003.

His awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Badge, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon and the Army Service Ribbon.  
He was also awarded the Army Parachutist Badge and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Basic and Senior Badges.

Jonathan had already been on at least 5 deployments.  

Jonathan is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife and young son. 

Let us pray that Jonathan Schmidt is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
