Gareth Thursby

British Sgt. Gareth Thursby, age 29, of Skipton, North Yorkshire, died on September 15, 2012, in the Nahr-e Saraj District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

He was shot by a man in an Afghan Police uniform.

Gareth served in the 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of Wellington's).

Sgt. Thursby, who had completed tours of duty in Kosovo and Iraq, was nicknamed Bull because of his strength and confidence. 

Military officials stated that Gareth was admired and deeply respected by his soldiers and peers for his soldiering skills, physical strength and forthright honesty. Utterly professional, his standards were legendary.

His wife stated that: Gareth was the love of my life. He was an amazing husband and father, happy, full of life and kind hearted with a passion for his work and family. He was brave, hard working, a loving husband who was a devoted father to his children. 

Gareth is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife Louise and children, Joshua and Ruby.

Let us pray that Gareth Thursby is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
