Michael Brodsky

Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael J. Brodsky, age 33, of Tamarac, Florida, died on July 21, 2012, in hospital in Germany. 

He was assigned to Navy Region Southwest Security Detachment, San Diego. He was a military dog handler. 

He succumbed to wounds sustained on July 7, 2012, in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. After coming under fire while on patrol, Michael rushed to protect his dog Jackson, bringing the dog to a nearby truck for shelter. He stepped on a landmine as he returned to the fight. The blast took both his legs and resulted in his death.

Michael grew up in Broward County and graduated from Dillard High School in Ft. Lauderdale. He enlisted in 2001. He was stationed at Sasebo Naval Base in Japan from April 25, 2002, through May 30, 2005. He had also been stationed in Bahrain.

Family members describe Michael as a true hero and a patriot. He is also described as helpful, friendly and a man with a contagious smile. 

Friends stated that Michael will be forever missed and never forgotten. 

Michael has been awarded the purple heart for his bravery.

Michael is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents Debra and Steven Brodsky; brother, Corey Brodsky; and grandfather, Stanley Brodsky.

Let us pray that Michael Brodsky is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
