Paul Voelke

Maj. Paul C. Voelke, age 36, of Monroe, New York, died on June 22, 2012, in Mazar E. Sharif, Afghanistan, of non-combat related injuries.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia.

Paul graduated from West Point in 1998. He had served in the Army for 14 years. This was his first deployment to Afghanistan. He had served twice before in Iraq.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart and the Afghanistan Campaign Medal.

Saint Paul, pray
for Paul Voelke
Military personnel describe Paul as a patriot who wanted to serve his country and who did what he was asked to do.

Paul had made a public statement several years ago on Veteran's Day to this effect: "I continue to serve because I believe in what I do, and I am honored to work with my fellow soldiers."

Paul is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his parents; and his wife, Traci, and his sons, Andrew and Benjamin.

Let us pray that Paul Voelke is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
