James Ashworth

British L/Cpl James Ashworth, age 23, from Kettering, Northamptonshire, England, died on June 13, 2012, in the Nahr-e-Saraj District, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained from the blast of a grenade. 

James was a member of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards.

James joined the Army at the age of 17 and completed a stint of ceremonial duty in London after joining Nijmegen Company Grenadier Guards. He spent three years with the Guards' Parachute Platoon, part of 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment, deploying in Afghanistan with them. He returned to the Grenadiers, serving in Canada with The Queen's Company before moving to the Reconnaissance Platoon. He had recently been promoted to the role of non-commissioned officer.

Military officials describe James as an outstanding soldier and an exceptional man who will never be forgotten. He is also described as fit, strong, determined, professional and calm in the face of adversity. 

Family members stated that they are devastated by his death and that there is a hole in their hearts. 

James is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, KerryAnn; father, James; sisters, Lauren and Paige; brothers Coran and Karl; and his girlfriend, Emily. 

Let us pray that James Ashworth is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
