Lance Cpl. Steven G. Sutton, age 24, of Leesburg, Georgia, died on May 26, 2012, while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He died from a roadside bomb explosion.
He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Steven was 6 feet, 7 inches tall and is described by friends as their gentle giant.
Steven graduated from Lee County High School in 2007.
High school officials describe Steven as a regular kid, who liked to joke around and have fun, but he was also competitive and focused.
Friends describe him as having a calm demeanor and a kind heart.
Family members describe Steven as their American hero.
Steven is survived by many loving friends and relatives, including his wife and step-daughter.
Let us pray that Steven Sutton is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
