Rodney Pierce - Law Enforcement - California

Police Officer Rodney Pierce, age 46, of San Ramon, California, died on May 11, 2012, in Castro Valley, California. 

He was a member of the Hayward Police Department. He had nearly 10 years of service.

He was off-duty and was riding a motorcycle on southbound Crow Canyon Road in Castro Valley at 5:40 a.m. when he hit a deer that had bound over a guard rail. Rod, who was wearing his helmet and traveling at a speed of 35 miles per hour, was ejected from the motorcycle. Paramedics were called to the scene and transported him to Eden Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

He was an alumnus of Hayward High School and Chabot College and had been taking classes at Cal State East Bay in Hayward.

He was a standout baseball player who was enshrined as a member of Chabot College's Baseball Hall of Fame. He was also dedicated to helping Hayward's youth, serving as an instructor in the Junior Giants youth baseball program.

Family members describe him as a devoted father and family man. 

Police Officials describe him as a solid officer. 

Rod is survived by many loving friends and family members including his mother Ruth Pierce; his sister, Debbie; his wife Susan; his sons - Blake, Billy and Joey, and stepson, Seth.

Pray for all who die in road accidents. They are with us one minute and taken away the next. 

Let us pray that Rod Pierce is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
