Payton Jones

Pfc. Payton A. Jones, age 19, of Marble Falls, Texas, died on March 1, 2012, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered from small arms fire during an attack on his base.

He was killed when two Afghan National Army service members and a civilian literacy teacher for the Afghan National Army turned their weapons on him. 

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

Payton Jones joined the Army in July of 2010. He completed One Station Unit Training and the Basic Airborne Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, before being assigned to Fort Bragg in 2010. This was his first deployment.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Parachutist Badge.

Military officials describe Payton as an outstanding soldier and a bright young man. 

Payton is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his father, Buell Jones, and his mother, Tami Sims. 

Pray for all 19 year olds who die in combat. They are just teenagers after all. 

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Payton Jones is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
