David Rathband - Law Enforcement - England

Former Police Officer, David Rathband, age 44, died on February 29, 2012, in Blyth, Northumberland, England.

It is believed he committed suicide by hanging.

David had joined the Northumbria Police Department in 2000.

Father, place David on
the road to Heaven
In July of 2010, a nut-bar, Raoul Moat, went on a rampage. On July 3, 2010, he shot and injured his former partner, Samantha Stobbart, age 22, and killed her new boyfriend, Chris Brown, age 29. The following day, after declaring he was now "hunting for officers", Moat crept up on David Rathband as he sat in his marked police car on a local highway. David was shot in the face and shoulder but saved his own life by pretending to be dead. He was rushed to a local hospital and underwent surgery but lost the sight in both eyes and was left with more than 200 shotgun pellets lodged in his skull. Raoul Moat, the shooter, committed suicide.

David Rathband experienced a good number of difficulties after this incident. He could not cope with the blindness. He had other issues, but this is what led him to suicide. He was also separating from his wife and family and said that "I've lost my sight, my job, my wife and my marriage."

David is survived by many loving friends and relatives and well-wishers. He is survived by his ex-wife, Kath, and his son, Ash and daughter, Mia.

Pray for all who suffer so greatly because of the performance of their duties.

Pray for all who commit suicide out of despair.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that David Rathband is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
