Pernell Herrera

Spc. Pernell J. Herrera, age 33, of Espanola, New Mexico, died on December 31, 2011, in Helmand province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered in a non-combat incident.

He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 171st Aviation Regiment, Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Pernell died of an apparent heart attack while performing physical fitness training.

He graduated from Española High School and joined the New Mexico State Guard in May 2006. He was a part of a crew that makes sure all the communication equipment was working properly. 

He described himself as the very easy going dad of one son and one daughter, who were the biggest joys of his life.

Pernell is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother, his brother; and his son and daughter.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Pernell Herrera is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
