Clarence Hammond - Correctional Officer - Michigan

Correctional Officer Clarence Hammond, age 33, died on January 14, 2012, in Madison Heights, Michigan.

He was a member of the Michigan Department of Corrections, working at the Macomb Correctional Facility. He had 6 years of service.

Clarence was shot and killed as he arrived home at an apartment complex on at approximately 12:30 am. Officer Hammond, who was still in uniform, and his girlfriend had pulled into a parking spot next to a van with an opened door. A subject immediately exited the van and accosted the couple. When he observed Officer Hammond's uniform he struck him in the head with the gun and then shot him.

The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. At the time of this posting, police officials were unsure if this was a botched robbery or a grudge killing because of Clarence's position as a corrections officer.
Angels of God, pray
for Clarence and for
his sons who have
lost their father

Clarence graduated from Ferris State University with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice in 2000.

Family members stated that Clarence loved his sons dearly. They describe him as a man of honor, a respectful, caring man and a fantastic father.

Corrections Department officials describe him as a very well liked officer at the Facility.

Clarence is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his father, Clarence Hammond Jr.; his sister, LaToya Hubbard; two young sons, Chance (age 4) and Shiloh (age 5), and his girlfriend.

Pray for all who are murdered. Pray for all who die because of their job. Pray for all who die at the hands of thieves.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Clarence Hammond is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
