Richard Rhyne - Law Enforcement - North Carolina

Deputy Sheriff Richard Rhyne, age 58, died on December 8, 2011, near Vass, North Carolina.

Rick was shot and killed after responding to investigate reports of trespassing at a home on Morrison Bridge Road. While questioning two brothers he learned that one of them had a warrant for outstanding child support. As he attempted to place the man under arrest the man fatally shot him with a handgun. The suspect then committed suicide.

The perpetrator of the murder was an Iraq war veteran with a history of mental problems.

Michael, Archangel,
Patron Saint of the Police,
pray for Rick
Deputy Rhyne had served with the Moore County Sheriff's Office for four years and had a total of 37 years in law enforcement. He had previously served with the Pinehurst Police Department and as police chief of the Foxfire Police Department.

Police officials describe Rick as a wonderful man and a great police officer.

Friends describe him as bubbly, happy and a good guy.

Rick is survived by his wife, son, and two grandchildren.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Rick Ryhne is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
