Deriek Crouse - Law Enforcement - Virginia

Police Officer Deriek Crouse, age 39, died in the line of duty on December 8, 2011, in Virginia.

Deriek was a member of the Virginia Tech Police Department. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, popularly known as Virginia Tech has its main campus in Blacksburg, Virginia.

Deriek was shot and killed while making a traffic stop in the parking lot of the university's Cassell Coliseum shortly after noon.

Michael, Archangel,
Patron Saint of the Police,
pray for Deriek
At some point during the stop, a suspect unrelated to the traffic stop approached the officer's unmarked car and shot him once in the head as he sat in his vehicle. The suspect fled on foot to a nearby location on campus and changed clothes. He was located by Police approximately 45 minutes after the shooting and committed suicide as a Montgomery County deputy attempted to approach him.

Deriek Crouse was a U.S. Army veteran and had served with the Virginia Tech Police Department for four years. He had previously served with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and New River Valley Regional Jail.

He received his law enforcement certification on Feb. 12, 2008, from the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy. Officer Crouse was trained as a Crisis Intervention Officer, General Instructor, Firearms Instructor, Defensive Tactics instructor and most recently completed training for Advance Law Enforcement Rapid Response and Mechanical and Ballistic Instructor.

He received an award in 2008 for his commitment to the department’s Driving Under the Influence efforts.

Deriek is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother; his wife, five children, and brother.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.  Pray for all who are killed randomly by freaks on the streets.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Deriek W. Crouse is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
