Joseph King - Firefighter - West Virginia

Firefighter Joseph King, age 61, of Davis Creek, West Virginia, died on December 4, 2011, in West Virginia.

Joseph was a member of the Davis Creek-Ruthdale Volunteer Fire Department. He had 7 years of service. He retired from the City of Charleston Sanitary department several years ago after a heart attack forced him to undergo open-heart surgery.

Joseph and another firefighter responded to reports of a fire involving railroad ties in the area north of Sproul Road near Alum Creek about 1 a.m. They went to a local bridge to use it as a lookout point to spot the source of the smoke. They parked the truck on the bridge. Joseph got out of the truck and went to one side while the other firefighter went to the other side to look for smoke. Somehow, Joseph fell off of the bridge to his death.

Saint Florian, Patron Saint
of Firefighters, pray for Joey
Family members describe Joseph as a great person who was always there when he was needed. He liked working on motorcycles and cars and playing practical jokes.

Fire Department officials describe him as dedicated, helpful and popular.

Joey is survived by many loving friends and relatives including 4 sisters, 2 adult children and his girlfriend and her son.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Joey King is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
