Saint Bernadette of Lourdes,
pray for Richard
Richard was from Rhymney, Gwent. He deployed to Afghanistan in October as part of Task Force Helmand's Formation Reconnaissance Squadron.

He had previously served in Bosnia and Iraq. He had left the Army in 2006 but rejoined in 2009.

Military officials describe him as having a fantastic sense of humour with the ability to make anyone smile. They also said that he was an experienced soldier and was calm under pressure.

Family members describe Richard as a man who enjoyed life to the fullest. They stated that he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Richard is survived by many loving friends and family members including his mother, Cherry; his step-father, Raymond and his sisters Lisa and Emma.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Richard Scanlon is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
