Matthew Haseldin

British soldier, Private Matthew Haseldin, age 21, from Settle, Yorkshire, died on November 3, 2011, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire and grenades. 

Matthew was with C Company Group, 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment (Worcesters and Foresters).

Matthew joined the Army in February 2011 before successfully passing the Combat Infantryman’s Course at the Infantry Training Centre Catterick. Upon completion of training, Private Haseldin joined the 2nd Battalion The Mercian Regiment in August of 2011.

Military officials describe him as keen, mature and popular with his comrades. He is also described as a reliable, fit, professional and dependable soldier.

His parents stated that he was a loving son and that they are proud of him for his service to his country. 

Friends have stated that Matthew was a first class soldier who never had a sad face. They have said that he was a loyal friend. 

Matthew is survived by numerous loving friends and family members including his parents, Alan and Jill.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Matthew Haseldin is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
