Matthew Adam Thornton

British Territorial Army soldier, Private Matthew Adam Thornton, age 28, was killed on November 9, 2011, in Babaji, Helmand Province, Afghanistan, when he was injured by an improvised explosive device.

Matthew was a member of the 4th Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment.

He was born in Barnsley and educated at Darton High School.

Light a candle for Matthew.
Light his way to Heaven.
He joined the Territorial Army in 2004, leaving briefly in 2007, but re-enlisting in 2009 and volunteering his services for deployment to Afghanistan.

Matthew is described by family members as a dedicated soldier and full of life.

Military officials describe him as a fine soldier and a finer man. They also said that he had grit and determination, and a ready wit and smile.

Matthew is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his father and mother, Michael and Susan; his sister, Sarah and his brother, Nathan.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Matthew Adam Thornton is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
