Jack L. Diener II

Pvt. Jack L. Diener II, age 20, of Boyne City, Michigan, died on November 21, 2011, in Kandahar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with small arms fire. 

He was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York.

Jack was a 2009 graduate of Boyne City High School. Jack wrestled and played football and baseball while in school, and he spent his junior year as a foreign exchange student in Denmark. High school officials describe him as independent and successful. 

Jack joined the Army in March 2011. After training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he was assigned to the 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division and arrived at Fort Drum in July 2011. 

Family members describe him as hardworking, very quiet and a good kid.

Jack's awards and decorations include The Purple Heart, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the Army Combat Action Badge. 

Jack is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents, Jack and Val Diener; sister Marcie Diener and grandmother, Donna Diener.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Jack L. Diener II is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
