He was travelling in an armored military bus when a suicide bomber slammed a vehicle filled with explosives into it, killing him.
Christopher graduated from Crest High School in 2004 and joined the military soon after.

He had been stationed in Afghanistan since May and was scheduled to come home for a two-week leave on December 31.
Christopher helped run a psychiatric ward and counseled other soldiers.
Family members describe Christopher as smart and quick to make others laugh. They stated that he was proud to serve in the Army.
Christopher is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his wife, Amanda; his 5 year old daughter; his grandparents, Don and Earlene Newman; and his brother Brent Newman.
Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Christopher R. Newman is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
