Garrett A. Fant

Spc. Garrett A. Fant, age 21, of American Canyon, California, died on September 26, 2011, in Helmand province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. 

He was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.

He was a 2008 graduate of Napa's Valley Oak High School. High School officials stated that Garrett was a well-liked and respected young man.

Garrett joined the army in March of 2009 and this was his first deployment. 

His awards include the Combat Infantryman's Badge, NATO Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one Campaign Star, and the Army Service Ribbon.

Friends stated that Garrett was passionate about the military and wanted to serve his country. 

Garrett is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his mother Julie Farrell; father John Fant; sister Shawna Farrell; and brothers James Keough and Ricky Farrell. 

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Garrett A. Fant is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
