James Ryan McCandless - Law Enforcement - South Dakota

Police Officer J. Ryan McCandless, age 28, was shot and killed on August 2, 2011, in Rapid City, South Dakota.

Ryan and two other officers performed a routine traffic stop regarding four suspicious subjects.

Light a candle for Ryan. Light
his way to Heaven.
After several minutes a male subject in the group pulled out a concealed handgun and opened fire, striking all three officers before being wounded by return fire. The subject was taken into custody after being wounded.

Ryan was a 2001 graduate of Midland H.H. Dow High School.  Ryan was engaged to be married, purchased a new home and in the past two years, obtained a master’s degree at the University of South Dakota in public administration, with the goal of becoming a police chief.

He is survived by numerous loving family members and friends including his fiancee.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that J. Ryan McCandless is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
