Michael J. Garcia

Staff Sgt. Michael J. Garcia, age 27, of Bossier City, Louisiana, died on July 4, 2011, in Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device. 

He was assigned to the 63rd Ordnance Battalion, 52nd Ordnance Group (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), 20th Support Command (CBRNE), Fort Polk, La.

He joined the Army after graduating from Bossier High School in 2001. He had two Purple Hearts. 

Friends describe him as handsome, an all-around nice guy, who could make you laugh. Friends also said that he died doing what he loved - serving in the military. 

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Michael J. Garcia is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
