David E. Van Camp


Capt. David E. Van Camp, age 29, of Wheeling, West Virginia, died on June 29, 2011, in Badrah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with indirect fire.

He was assigned to 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas.

David was a 2000 graduate of Wheeling Park High School. VanCamp attended Marion Military Institute in Alabama and then transferred to Marshall University, graduating in 2004 with a degree in criminal justice.

He served several tours in Iraq, with his first being in October 2005, shortly after he married. 

Military officials stated that David was committed to serving his country and that he demonstrated valor, even in the face of danger.

He is the recipient of a Bronze Service Medal, a Purple Heart, a Meritorious Service Medal, two Army Achievement Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, an Iraqi Campaign Medal including two combat service stars, a Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, a Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, an Army Service Ribbon, a National Defense Service Medal, a Combat Action Badge, a Parachutist Badge and two Overseas Service Ribbons.

David VanCamp leaves behind a wife, Chelsea (Graham), his parents and three brothers.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that David E. Van Camp is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
