Richard C. Emmons III

Spc. Richard C. Emmons III, age 22, of North Granby, Connecticut., died on May 31, 2011, in Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with a rocket propelled grenade.

Richard Emmons enlisted in the Army in September 2009 and was posted at Fort Polk in May 2010.

He has received the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal and the Combat Action Badge.

He is survived by his mother and step-father.
