Nicholas P. Bernier

Spc. Nicholas P. Bernier, age 21, of East Kingston, New Hampshire, died on June 25, 2011, at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany, of injuries suffered on June 22, 2011, when insurgents attacked his unit using small arms fire in Kherwar, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Polk, La.

He was a combat medic assigned and joined the Army in March 2008. After training at Fort Benning, Ga., he was assigned to Fort Sam Houston, Texas in May 2008. He arrived at Fort Polk in April 2010 and deployed with his unit in October 2010 to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Medal, the Combat Medic Badge and the Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Nicholas is survived by his mother, father, brothers and sister.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Nicholas P. Bernier is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
