Mathieu Gaudin

French Lieutenant Mathieu Gaudin, age 37, died near the Bagram airbase in Afghanistan on June 10, 2011.

His helicopter went down in bad weather. 

Mathieu Gaudin was in Afghanistan since the beginning of June under Operation PAMIR as patrol leader. 

Mathieu was married and the father of four children.  

He joined the military in 1997 and was licensed as a helicopter pilot in 1998.  He rejoined the 5 th Regiment of Combat Helicopters in July of 2007. He was promoted to the rank of second lieutenant on January 1, 2009 and then Lieutenant in August of 2009.  He participated in overseas operations in Croatia in 2002, Kosovo in 2008 and the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire in 2005 and 2010.

In 2008, Lieutenant Mathieu Gaudin was awarded the gold medal of national defense. He was also awarded the Medal with overseas clasp Vermeil, the commemorative medal with clasp former Yugoslavia and the NATO medal. He had received two letters of congratulations.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Mathieu Gaudin is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
