Martin J. Lamar

Army Specialist Martin J. Lamar, age 43, of Sacramento, California, was killed in Iraq on January 15, 2011, when an Iraqi soldier from the unit with which he was training shot him with small-arms fire.

He was assigned to 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Martin Lamar is survived by his wife, Josephine of Sacramento, two adult daughters, a 7-year-old son and a 3-month-old daughter whom he had never seen. He also leaves his mother and stepfather, Marti and Frank Walker, and brother Chris Lamar of Roseville.  Relatives stated that Martin Lamar had wanted to join the military since he was a child, and that he loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  After serving four years in the Marines, Lamar worked as an electrician and for an armored truck company.  But his first love was the military and he re-enlisted in 2007.

He had been scheduled to come home on leave the day he was killed, but the leave date had been postponed to Jan. 30. He died on his wedding anniversary.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Martin J. Lamar is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
