Jeffrey Lee Drake

Sgt. Jeffrey Lee Drake, an Army veteran just back from Iraq, was buried Tuesday after he was killed in a motorcycle collision just two days after his return to the U.S. He was 25. He had been in Iraq with the National Guard.  "It was a job he always knew he wanted to do", said his cousin and best friend, Tyler Wyrick.  "Jeff had had a dream since he was a kid - he wanted to be in the Army and fly helicopters," Wyrick said.

A 2003 graduate of Wyandotte High School, Jeffrey Drake was an Army mechanic and crew chief who worked on helicopters and had completed previous tours of duty in Korea and Afghanistan. After ending his active service, he continued with the Army National Guard. He was buried with military honors Tuesday at Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore.

The accident happened Friday, while Drake was out for a ride on his motorcycle. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, he was traveling eastbound on Oklahoma 28 when he crossed the center line and hit an oncoming Delaware County sheriff's deputy's patrol car head-on.

Jeffrey Drake is survived by his wife, Jenn Drake; his father, Gary Drake of Wyandotte; two brothers, Justin Drake of Wyandotte and Gary Drake Jr. of Fort Knox, Ky.; and grandparents Anna and Kenneth Porter.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Jeffrey Lee Drake is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
