James Hansen

A 25-year-old airman called a “rising star” by his squadron commander was killed September 15, 2010, during a controlled detonation in Iraq.

Senior Airman James A. Hansen of Athens, Mich., and a soldier were disposing of unexploded bombs at Joint Base Balad when the incident occurred, according to U.S Forces-Iraq. The blast immediately killed James Hansen and injured the soldier.   “We are deeply saddened by Airman Hansen's death,” said squadron commander Lt. Col. David Radomski. “He was a rising star in the Air Force and served his country well, but Jimmy was also a great person who had a positive impact on everyone around him.”

James Hansen served as an airfield management operations coordinator with the 46th Operations Squadron at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. He followed the footsteps of his father, who served in the Air National Guard, by joining the Air Force in 2008.

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that James Hansen is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
