Darren Deady

A British soldier who died in hospital from injuries he suffered in Afghanistan has been named as Kingsman Darren Deady. The soldier, from 2nd Battalion, The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, was shot in southern Afghanistan on August 23, 2010. The 22-year-old, from Bolton, died in hospital on September 10, 2010.

Darren Deady's family, who were with him when he died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, said he fought to make a difference. Darren Deady joined the army in 2008 and was based in Cyprus before he was sent to Afghanistan. The Ministry of Defence said he was helping to protect a "vital location" in the Nahr-e Saraj district of Helmand when his unit came under "prolonged, intense small arms and rocket propelled grenade fire".

His commanding officer, said: "Kingsman Darren Deady was a tiny man with the heart of a lion."

Let us pray to God the Father, Jesus, all of the saints and all of the angels that Darren Deady is in heaven. Let us pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen
