Russell Achord - Firefighter Fatality - Louisiana

Russell Achord
Deputy Fire Chief Russell Achord, age 48, died in the line of duty on January 17, 2018, at a hospital in St. Francisville, Louisiana.

Deputy Chief Achord was a member of the West Feliciana Parish Fire Protection District No. 1. He had 24 years of service.

At about 9:00 a.m., Russell was responding to the scene of a motor vehicle accident. A semi-trailer had run off of U.S. Highway 61 due to icy conditions. He and others responders were aiding at the scene when the driver of a pick-up truck lost control and skidded into the group. Russell was pinned under a vehicle.

Fellow responders rushed Russell to a local hospital where, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.

Russell, as well as serving as a firefighter, also had an accomplished career as a paramedic and law enforcement officer.

The members of the West Feliciana Parish Fire Protection District No. 1 are in mourning over the death of their brother. Russell was a well-respected comrade. He
