Daniel McCartney - Deputy Sheriff Fatality - Washington

Deputy Sheriff Daniel McCartney, age 34, died in the line of duty on January 8, 2018, at a hospital in Tacoma, Washington. 

Deputy Sheriff McCartney was a member of the Pierce County Sheriff's Department. He had 3 years of service with the Department. He had previously served with the Hoquiam Police Department for 6 years. 

On January 7, 2018, before midnight, Daniel responded to a home invasion (intruder) call at a location in Frederickson. He was the first officer on scene and ran after one of the suspects. 

That man opened fire, striking Daniel. 

Daniel was rushed to a hospital in Tacoma where, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries, on January 8, 2018.  

The shooter fled the scene and as of this posting, is still at large. A second robbery suspect was found dead at the scene.

Daniel was a decorated U.S. Navy veteran.

Daniel is described as a good, solid, stalwart man. Daniel was a valued asset to the Department. He was one of the good guys. He will be forever remembered.

Daniel's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was greatly loved. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Daniel is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and three sons.

Thank you for your service to America and to the community, Daniel.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the psychopaths and the thieves. They are killing us, Father. Amen.
