Floyd East Jr. - Police Officer Fatality - Lubbock, Texas

Floyd East Jr. 
Police Officer Floyd East, age 48, died in the line of duty on October 9, 2017, in Lubbock, Texas.

Officer East was a member of the Texas Tech University Police Department. He began working as a Texas Tech guard in the El Paso office in 2014 and started as an officer in Lubbock on May 1, 2017.

Officers at the University had been called out to do a welfare check on a student acting erratically. They entered his dorm room and found narcotics on the premises. He was later taken into custody and transported to the Texas Tech Police Station for questioning and booking.

The student was not handcuffed. At about 8:30 p.m., he pulled out a gun and shot Floyd. He then fled the building.

Tragically, Floyd died of his injuries.

Hollis Daniels, age 19, of Seguin, Texas, has been arrested and is charged with capital murder.

The members of the Texas Tech University Police Department are in mourning over the death of their brother. Floyd was easy going and friendly to others. He was one of the good guys. He will be forever remembered.

Floyd's loved ones are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He was loved. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Floyd is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his wife and two daughters.

Thank you for your service, Floyd.

Pray for justice for Floyd.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

God save us from the psychopaths. They are killing us, Father. Amen.

Pray that Floyd is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
