Bryan Black, Jeremiah Johnson, Dustin Wright - U.S. Military Fatalities - Niger, Africa

A terrible tragedy occurred in southwest Niger, Africa on October 4, 2017.

Three American Soldiers died in the line of duty. While on a reconnaissance patrol with members of the Niger Army, they underwent an attack by Islamic insurgents. Tragically all three American men were mortally wounded.

Tragically, four members of the Niger Army were also killed in the attack. 

The incident is under investigation. 

Niger is a country in West Africa with a population of about 21 million. It is not to be confused with Nigeria which is directly south of Niger.

All three of the soldiers were assigned to 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina. They were Green Berets. 

American military personnel are in Niger to provide training and security assistance to the Niger Armed forces in their efforts to oppose violent extremists in the region.

Tragically deceased are:

Staff Sgt. Bryan C. Black, age 35, of Puyallup, Washington. Bryan enlisted in the Army in October of 2009. He was a Green Beret serving as a Special Forces medical sergeant. His awards and decorations include the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Marksmanship Qualification Badge - Sharpshooter with Rifle.

Staff Sgt. Jeremiah W. Johnson, age 39, of Springboro, Ohio. Jeremiah enlisted in the Army in October of 2007. He served as a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear specialist attached to the Green Beret unit. His awards include the Army Commendation Medal (2nd Award), Army Achievement Medal (5th Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Ribbon, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge, and Marksmanship Qualification Badge - Expert with Pistol and Rifle.

Staff Sgt. Dustin M. Wright, age 29, of Lyons, Georgia. Dustin enlisted in the Army in July of 2012. He was a Green Beret serving as a Special Forces engineer sergeant. His awards and decorations include the Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Special Forces Tab, and Parachutist Badge.

Military comrades at Fort Bragg are in mourning over the deaths of their brothers.
Angels of God, pray for Bryan, for Jeremiah and for
Dustin. Pray also for those who have lost them. 
Bryan, Jeremiah and Dustin died as heroes in the service of their country. They will be forever remembered.

The loved ones of Bryan, Jeremiah and Dustin are devastated over their sudden and tragic deaths. They were loved. They did their best. They will be forever mourned.

Oceans of tears have been shed for these men.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Bryan is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

Pray that Jeremiah is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

Pray that Dustin is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

Pray, without ceasing, unto God for an end to all war. It is enough.
