Kevin Mainhart - Sheriff's Department Fatality - Arkansas

Lieutenant Kevin Mainhart, age 46, died in the line of duty on May 11, 2017, at a hospital in Dardanelle, Arkansas.

Lieutenant Mainhart was a member of the Yell County Sheriff's Department which is based in Danville, Arkansas. He had joined the Sheriff's Department after retiring as a Captain with the West Memphis (Arkansas) Police Department. He had over 25 years of service in law enforcement.

Just after 7:00 a.m., Kevin was conducting a traffic stop of a vehicle which was involved in a domestic disturbance call. During the traffic stop the male subject shot Kevin, mortally wounding him.

Kevin was rushed to a local hospital where, tragically, he was pronounced deceased.

The male subject, James Bowden, age 42, had killed two female victims at the scene of the domestic disturbance and was apprehended after a lengthy standoff with the authorities. He will be charged with three counts of capital murder.

Kevin was a U.S. Air Force veteran with four years of service.

The members of the Yell County Sheriff's Department and the West Memphis Police Department are in mourning over the death of their brother. Police comrades describe Kevin as a well-respected member of their team. He was a leader. He will be forever remembered.

Kevin's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was greatly loved. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Kevin is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

Thank you for your service to America and to the community, Kevin.
