Austin Bieren - U.S. Air Force Fatality - Syria

Austin Bieren
Staff Sgt. Austin Bieren, age 25, of Umatilla, Oregon, died on March 28, 2017, in northern Syria.

Staff Sgt. Bieren was assigned to the 21st Space Wing at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

Tragically, Austin died in a non-combat-related incident while deployed in support of combat operations.

Austin was serving in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, which is the U.S. Military operation against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. He worked in security forces. 

Austin graduated from Umatilla High School in 2010 and entered the Air Force that November. He had been stationed at the Peterson Base since June of 2014.

Austin's awards include the Aerial Achievement Medal with one device, Air Force Achievement Medal with two devices, Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one device, National Defense Service

Medal, Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal with one device, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with Gold Border, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with one device, Air Force Longevity Service, U. S. Air Force NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon with one device, and the Air Force Training Ribbon.

Austin's comrades at Peterson Air Force Base are in mourning over the death of their young brother. He was a superb Airman who was a valued and well-respected member of their team. He will be forever remembered.

Austin's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was loving and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Austin is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

Thank you for your service to America, Austin.

Pray for all who die in a foreign land, far from their loved ones.

Pray that Austin is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.

Pray, without ceasing, unto God for an end to all War. It is enough.
