Ryan Thomas - Deputy Sheriff Fatality - New Mexico

Deputy Sheriff Ryan Thomas, age 30, died in the line of duty on December 6, 2016, in Valencia County, New Mexico.

Deputy Sheriff Thomas was a member of the Valencia County Sheriff's Office. He had 1 year of service. 

Valencia County has a population of just under 77,000. It is included in the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area.

At about 9:00 p.m., Ryan was responding to a call for service. His patrol car veered off of the roadway. 

Tragically, Ryan was fatally injured. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation. 

A funding site has been established to help the family with expenses. 

Ryan had served in the United States Navy and was a member of the 150th Security Forces Squadron in the New Mexico Air National Guard. He had previously served with the Alamogordo Police Department.

The members of the Valencia County Sheriff's Office are in mourning over the death of their brother. He will be forever remembered.

Ryan's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was loving and was loved in return. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Ryan is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his expectant wife and one child.

Thank you for your service to your country and to the community, Ryan. 

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray that Ryan is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
