Adam Thomas - U.S. Military Fatality - Afghanistan

Staff Sgt. Adam S. Thomas, age 31, of Tacoma Park, Maryland, died in the line of duty on October 4, 2016, in Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan.

Staff Sgt. Thomas died due to the explosion of an improvised explosive device during dismounted operations.

Adam was assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colorado. He was a Special Forces medical sergeant.

Adam was engaged in U.S. Military operations against terrorist groups in Afghanistan including ISIS-related groups.

Adam joined the Army in April of 2008. He had been stationed at Fort Carson since February of 2016.

This was his third overseas deployment. He had deployed once to Iraq and twice to Afghanistan.

Adam's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, and Basic Military Free Fall Parachute Badge.

Military officials stated that: “Staff Sgt. Thomas epitomized what it is to be a professional Green Beret and soldier. His loss from our organization and his memory

will not be forgotten.”

The soldiers of Fort Carson are in mourning over the death of their brother. Adam was one of the good guys. He will be forever remembered.

Adam's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Adam is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members who will forever miss him.

Thank you for your service to America, Adam.

Pray for all who die while far away from their loved ones.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray, without ceasing, unto God for an end to all War.

Pray that Adam is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
