John Morris Davis Jr. - Firefighter Fatality - Kenly, North Carolina

Firefighter John Morris Davis, Jr., age 45, died in the line of duty on May 7, 2016, on a roadway near Kenly, North Carolina.

Firefighter Davis was a member of the Kenly Volunteer Fire Department. He had over 12 years of service. 

Kenly is a town of 1,400 and is located about 40 miles south-east of Raleigh. 

Just after 7:00 p.m. on May 7th, John and other firefighters had responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Kenly. The driver of an SUV had hit a utility pole and had to be extricated from the vehicle. The extraction process was difficult. 

Shortly thereafter, John started experiencing chest pains.  John was being rushed to a local hospital when he went into cardiac arrest. Tragically, John died on the way to the hospital. 

John had formerly been a Kenly Police Officer. He was a member of Center Ridge Presbyterian Church and was a committed Christian.

The Kenly Volunteer Fire Department is in mourning over the death of their brother. John had a long history of helping others. He loved being a firefighter. He was an asset to this comrades. He will be forever remembered.

Friends describe John as hard-working and generous. He would give you the shirt off of his back.

John's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was happy and had a loving spirit. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

John is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his father, his half-brother, his wife, Dwaina, and three children.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray for all who come to the aid of others and who die because of it.

Pray that John is in Heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
