Daniel Ellis - Police Officer Fatality - Richmond, Kentucky

Daniel Ellis
Police Officer Daniel Ellis, age 33, died in the line of duty, on November 6, 2015, at a hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.

Officer Ellis was a member of the Richmond Police Department. He had 7 years of service.

On November 4, 2015, two or more suspects tried to mug a woman at a downtown gas station. Police tracked their vehicle to an apartment building about a mile away.

Daniel Ellis and another officer entered an apartment looking for the suspects. Daniel entered a bedroom where a male suspect shot Daniel in the head.

Daniel was rushed to a hospital in Lexington where, tragically, he succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Daniel's partner returned fire and wounded the shooter who is identified as Raleigh Sizemore Jr., age 34. Raleigh Sizemore is an ex-convict who was in violation of his parole conditions. He had stated earlier that day that he had no intention of returning to prison.

Two others in the apartment during the shootout were also arrested - Gregory Ratliff, age 25, and Rita Creech, age 44.
Michael, Patron Saint of the
