John Baker - a teenager killed in a boating accident in Florida

John Baker
John Baker, age 17, died on August 12, 2015, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

During the late evening hours, John and five friends were cruising the Middle River in a relatively small fishing boat. Five boys and one girl were on board. They had permission to use the boat.

In the extreme darkness, the boat struck the concrete pier of a bridge, just after midnight.

John was not driving the boat and was a passenger. The driver of the boat had a valid boater safety ID card.

Tragically, the impact killed John at the scene and seriously injured three of his friends.

These teens had all known each other since early childhood.

John was a student at St. Thomas Aquinas High School, which is a private Catholic college-preparatory school in Fort Lauderdale.

Friends describe John as a promising athlete at the school where he was set to begin his senior year. John was an avid fisherman, diver and boating enthusiast. He is described as one of the nicest kids anyone knows. He always had a smile to share.
Angels of God, pray for John
and for those who have lost him.
He was fun loving and fun to be around. He was also hard-working and focused.

All of the teens involved are described as good kids and good students.

John's family members are devastated by his sudden and tragic death. He was a good kid who did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Oceans of tears will be shed for this boy.

John is survived by many loving friends and relatives including his parents, John and Jamie Baker; and his sister, Chloe.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray for all who die young. They barely had a chance to live.

Pray for the recovery of all who were injured in this tragic accident.

Pray that John is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
