Spc. Michael Corey, age 31, of Oro Valley, Arizona, died in the line of duty on June 15, 2015, in South Korea.
Michael Corey

Spc. Corey was assigned to the 441st Military Intelligence Battalion stationed at Camp Zama, Japan.

Michael was undergoing a training exercise at Camp Jackson, south of Seoul, South Korea. It was a Warrior Leader Course. The course is hard hitting and intensive with an emphasis on leadership skills. Any soldier wishing to move up in rank is required to take the course.  The part of the course that Michael was taking is called "land navigation".

He was given a map and a compass and was left on his own to navigate to a particular point. Tragically, during his trek, he fell and hit his head, causing a fatal injury.

Michael was found near Camp Jackson by South Korean citizens. He was rushed to a local hospital but was pronounced deceased.

The circumstances of Michael's death are under investigation.

Michael graduated from Canyon del Oro High School in 2002. He studied criminal justice at Pima Community College. He transferred to Northern Arizona University and received a bachelor’s degree in 2007.  He worked security for a company that was contracted by the federal government before he decided to join the Army in 2014.

He liked to read and play basketball, soccer and golf.

Michael's military comrades are in mourning over the death of their young brother.
Light a candle for Michael. Light his way
to Heaven.
Military officials describe him as a talented and dedicated soldier. He will be forever remembered.

Michael's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He was upbeat and hardworking. He was thoughtful, responsible and conscientious.  He could make others laugh. He did his best. He will be forever mourned.

Michael is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including his parents.

Thank you for your service to your country, Michael.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray for all who die alone and in a foreign land.

Pray that Michael is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
