Kerrie Orozco - Law Enforcement Fatality - Omaha, Nebraska

Kerrie Orozco (L); Marcus Wheeler (R)
Detective Kerrie Orozco, age 29, died in the line of duty on May 20, 2015, in Omaha, Nebraska.

Detective Orozco was a member of the Omaha Police Department. She had over 7 years of service. She worked in the gang unit.

During the afternoon of May 20, 2015, Kerrie and other members of the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force were attempting to serve a warrant on a man wanted for a shooting in September of 2014.

The subject opened fire on the officers as they approached a house in Omaha. Kerrie was fatally struck. Members of the task force returned fire, fatally wounding the man.

Kerrie was rushed to a local hospital where tragically she passed away.

Also killed was the suspect, Marcus Wheeler, age 26, who passed away at the same hospital.  It was been reported that Marcus was a gang member who was wanted in connection with another shooting.

Kerrie was on schedule to commence maternity leave shortly.  Her daughter had been born prematurely in February of 2015. Kerrie had delayed her maternity leave until her daughter was able to leave the hospital.
Michael, Archangel, Patron Saint of
the Police, pray for Kerrie and for her
husband and her children who
have lost her.

The Omaha Police Department is in mourning over the death of their sister. She was a friend to all, a popular officer and highly regarded by her peers. She was very much into doing work for charity. She had established a baseball team to help get troubled youths off the streets and away from gang life. She volunteered for years as the baseball coach at the Omaha Boys and Girls Club.
Kerrie will be forever remembered.

Kerrie's loved ones are devastated over her sudden and tragic death. She did her best. She will be forever mourned.

Kerrie is survived by many loving comrades, friends and family members including her husband, Hector; her infant daughter, Olivia Ruth; and her two stepchildren - Natalia (age 8) and Santiago (age 6)

Thank you for your service to the community, Kerrie.

Pray for all who die in the line of duty.

Pray for all who die suddenly. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the Lost Ones who bring death to strangers. Amen.

Pray that Kerrie is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
