Celeste Jewel Howell - a victim of hit and run in West Oakland, California

Celeste Jewel Howell, age 50, died on March 7, 2015, in West Oakland, California.

Celeste was walking on a city sidewalk just before 2:30 in the afternoon when a vehicle jumped the curb and struck her. Tragically, she died at the scene.

The vehicle had been stolen and was speeding. The driver of the vehicle offered no help and fled the scene.

Celeste was a well-known jewelry artist in the Bay Area. She was a Buddhist who believed in peace and justice. She loved her partner and her family. 

Her father had served in the Air Force and Celeste spent her younger years in Germany and then in New Mexico.  She attended the University of New Mexico where she studied business and finance. She served two years as a Peace Corps worker in Mali, Africa. She also studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts. 

Friends describe her as a sweet person who was very talented in her chosen field of jewelry design and manufacture.

Celeste as a woman with a big heart who was greatly loved. She will be forever mourned.

Celeste is survived by many loving friends and family members including her mother, Marie Howell, three siblings, and her longtime partner, Brian Mason.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

Pray for justice for Celeste.

God save us from the drunk drivers, the doped up drivers and the speeding drivers. They strike us down on the road and then run away like wolves. Amen.

Pray that Celeste is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
