Amanda Hagelstein - a victim of alleged drunk driving in Newark, Delaware

Amanda Hagelstein, age 22, died on March 8, 2015, in Newark, Delaware.

Amanda Hagelstein (L);  Kyle Loyd (R)
Amanda was out with a friend on a Saturday night.  Sometime after midnight they decided to cross the street. An unidentified acquaintance, with whom she was walking, saw an approaching pickup truck and stopped without crossing. Amanda tried to cross and was struck down.

She was severely injured and was rushed to a local hospital where tragically she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the truck fled the scene but was apprehended by the police soon after. Kyle Loyd, age 21, was charged with driving under the influence and fleeing the scene.

Kyle Loyd is innocent until proven guilty.

However we offer this advice to all drivers: If you find that you are wasted, drunk or doped up on street drugs or prescription drugs or if you are falling asleep on your feet, do NOT drive. Call a family member or a friend for a ride; or take a taxi; or stay where you are until you sober up; or crawl home on your hands and knees. It will be better for you and for the world if you do.

Regret can last a lifetime.
Gabriel, Archangel, pray for Amanda
and for those who have lost her.

Amanda graduated in 2010 from the Charter School of Wilmington where she was a member of the swim team and multiple national honor societies, also receiving the Governor's Award for Community Service.

In 2014 she graduated from the University of Delaware. She majored in foreign languages and could speak French, Spanish and German.

She had worked at a YMCA in Bear, Delaware, as a swim instructor and lifeguard. Currently she was working as a sales executive for a car dealership in Newark.

Amanda's loved ones are devastated over her sudden and tragic death. She is described as loving, outgoing and uptempo.  She loved her family who will forever mourn her.

Amanda is survived by many loving friends and family members including her mother Catherine Calloway; and her father Walter Hagelstein.

Pray for justice for Amanda.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the drunk and the doped up drivers. They are killing us, Father.

Pray that Amanda is in heaven. Pray that she is at peace and is with God. Amen.
