Paul Bally - a victim of hit and run - British Columbia

Paul Bally, age 48, died on December 15, 2014, on a roadway in Fanny Bay, British Columbia.

Fanny Bay is a village of just over 800 located on the east coast of Vancouver Island.

Paul had left his home in the early evening to go for a bicycle ride. He was found by his wife hours later lying in a ditch along a local highway.  He had been struck by a vehicle.  The driver fled the scene.

Paul was transported to a hospital in Comox where he was pronounced deceased.

Paul had been wearing reflective gear and the bike was well-lit. It is believed that the vehicle came up behind him and sideswiped him on the vehicle's passenger side.  From the debris which fell off the vehicle, it is believed to be a white truck - possibly a Ford F250, F350 or Excursion.

If you have information about this collision you are urged to contact the North Island Traffic service in Campbell River at 250-286-5646 or if you wish to remain anonymous you can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Paul was a French teacher at Lake Trail Middle School in Courtenay.  He had taught there for 17 years.  He is described as a popular and highly regarded teacher who will

be greatly missed by his colleagues and students.

Paul was also a volunteer firefighter.

Paul's loved ones are devastated over his sudden and tragic death. He will be forever mourned.

Paul is survived by many loving friends and family members including his wife, Evelyn, and his two young children.

Pray for all who die by misadventure. They are with us one moment and are gone before we can say goodbye.

God save us from the drivers who strike us down on the road and then run away like wolves.

Pray that Paul is in heaven. Pray that he is at peace and is with God. Amen.
